Koala Conservation Day July 10 – Tree Planting!
July 10 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Help save koalas by planting habitat in the river valleys west of Melbourne.
We are on a mission to plant 300,000 koala trees by 2030 in order to save our You Yangs koalas from climate change. The aim of this day is to plant 1,000 to 1,200 trees in a beautiful valley that was once home to koalas, and could be again in only 4 years. We plant for at least 3-4 hours along the banks of a beautiful creek.
The planting site is a private property about an hour west of Melbourne.
This planting is fairly easy – holes are pre-dug, trees, stakes and guards are ready at each hole. Hammers are provided.
Participants will be planting trees in the outdoors with a small group of like-minded locals. You will be given guidance by a leader, but you can choose to plant only in the company of your own family, friends, or by yourself if you prefer. Morning tea and lunch will be conducted sitting on logs and picnic blankets.
Tree planting is a rewarding activity that requires some fitness, ability to walk on uneven terrain, to carry equipment, bend over and use hammers. Participants should be willing to plant in all weather conditions.
Where to meet: The meeting place for the day will be confirmed via email closer to the date as planting is conducted in different locations. All properties are a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from Melbourne CBD. As planting occurs on private properties, please meet us at the designated meeting point as we do not share the property’s address. Please don’t be late.
What to bring: Drinking water, packed lunch & morning tea, reusable drinking mug, gardening gloves, sunscreen and insect repellant. Gumboots and raincoat are highly recommended. We also recommend a change of dry clothes in case it rains.
