Koala Conservation Day July 11 – Tree Planting!
July 11 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Help save koalas by planting habitat trees along the Little River near Melbourne.
We will plant 1,000 to 1,200 trees beside the Little River, to provide habitat for the koalas in the drying forest of the You Yangs. We plant for about 3-4 hours along the banks of the river with views of the You Yangs.
This planting is fairly easy – holes are pre-dug, trees, stakes and guards are ready at each hole. Hammers are provided.
Participants will be planting trees in the outdoors with a small group of like-minded locals. You will be given guidance by a leader, but you can choose to plant only in the company of your own family, friends, or by yourself if you prefer. Morning tea and lunch will be enjoyed sitting on logs and picnic blankets.
Tree planting is very rewarding in all weather conditions. Some fitness is required, an ability to walk on uneven terrain, to carry equipment, bend over and use hammers is valuable. Participants should be willing to plant in all weather conditions.
Where to meet: The meeting place for the day will be confirmed via email closer to the date as planting is conducted in different locations. All properties are a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from Melbourne CBD. As planting occurs on private properties, please meet us at the designated meeting point as we do not share the property’s address. Please don’t be late.
What to bring: Drinking water, packed lunch & morning tea, reusable drinking mug, gardening gloves, sunscreen and insect repellant. Gumboots and raincoat are highly recommended. We also recommend a change of dry clothes in case it rains.
