Plant trees for koalas & have fun outdoors!

Enjoy a day of tree planting on the plains west of Melbourne, connecting with nature and helping koalas – it’s an incredibly rewarding activity!

After meeting at the meeting point, we will drive in convoy to the nearby planting site for the day. You will be given guidance by our experienced staff, then you can plant in the company of your own family or friends, or with the rest of the group. We aim to plant around 1000 koala trees, which will take at least 3 hours depending on the group size.

After planting for a bit, we’ll take morning tea and lunch breaks (BYO food and water). This will be undercover where possible but will often be outdoors. We recommend dressing in layers as weather can be variable – we’ve planted through rain, hail, and shine, sometimes all in one day!
A lot of the properties that we plant on are large, open fields with no facilities. We recommend using the bathrooms at the meeting point in the morning.

Note: Tree planting is an incredibly rewarding activity but it requires some fitness – ability to walk on uneven terrain, carry equipment, bend over and use hammers. With that said, though, we welcome all ages and abilities.

The meeting location for Sunday 20th August is – United Service Station Gheringhap – 1244 Midland Hwy, Gheringhap VIC 3331.

We will leave this meeting location at 9:30 and drive to the planting site. Please arrive early or on time.

Cost:
Locals (Victorian residents): $30 adults, $20 children/student/concession
(Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)

Tourists: $120 *
* This is a subsidised event for locals, however, we welcome tourists to join and spend a day with locals. Please book the tourist ticket if you do not reside in Victoria.
This contribution goes directly back to koalas and allows us to keep doing the important research and hands-on work we do. The nature experience we provide is educational and unique. Getting there:
As mentioned, the meeting point is dependent on how fast we’re moving through our planting sites throughout the season. It is likely to be at one of the following locations:

Caltex Bannockburn, Little River Reserve, McDonald’s Geelong Bypass Southbound, Mount Moriac Recreation Reserve, Anakie General Store, Teesdale General Store.

If you can’t or don’t want to drive yourself, we offer free pickup from the closest train station to the planting site. PLEASE EMAIL US to advise if you require train station pickup – info@koalaclancyfoundation.org.au

Please note, this is not the sort of event you can pop in on. The locations we spend the day in are behind locked gates, often some distance from parked cars, and change from day to day. You must be ready at the meeting point at the meeting time, and be willing to finish with the rest of the group at around 2.30pm

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Transport from the city is available by train, we can pick you up from the closest train station to the planting site. Please contact us one week before to arrange this – info@koalaclancyfoundation.org.au
Those driving themselves please meet at the meeting point at the time given. Please plan to arrive 5 minutes early as we cannot wait for late arrivals.

Why are tourist tickets more expensive than locals?
This is a subsidised event intended to educate locals (Victorian residents). Ticket prices do not cover costs, but are subsidised to encourage locals. We welcome international and interstate visitors but ask that they pay the true cost of the experience, so that koalas get the maximum benefit from their visit.

Koala Clancy Foundation is a not for profit, fully registered charity. We do not get government grants to cover our costs.

What should I bring?
Drinking water, a hat, packed lunch, keep-cup for coffee or tea, gardening gloves, sunscreen and insect repellent.
Note: due to COVID we recommend you bring your own gloves, food and a drinking mug.

Can I participate more than once?
Yes! We encourage volunteers to participate in as many conservation days as they can!
If you are planning on coming multiple times consider becoming a member of the Koala Clancy Foundation. This entitles you to unlimited participation in the conservation days for the year and is great value!

How can I support from far away?

What is the refund policy?
Your ticket is non-refundable.

Are children welcome?
Yes, children of 5 years and over are welcome to join but must be accompanied by an adult. One adult per child please.

Can I bring my dog/cat/pet?
No, absolutely not. Pets are not permitted at Koala Clancy Foundation events. Your pet can’t remain in your car as you will not be close by. The properties we plant on often have livestock and farmers do not allow unknown pets on their properties under any circumstances.
