WILD KOALA DAY – Weeding and Wildlife Walk
May 3 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
$30
Join us in the You Yangs to restore koala habitat by removing the invasive boneseed weed!
After meeting at the Little River Reserve into the mornings, our guides will direct you into a part of the You Yangs forest that is in need of habitat restoration. After clearing an area of the invasive boneseed weed to restore koala habitat, we’ll enjoy a refreshing morning tea and then head out on a guided wildlife walk.
If we’re lucky, we’ll spot a wild koala!
This event is in celebration of Wild Koala Day 2025. Wild Koala Day was started in 2016 by a network of independent koala conservation and rehabilitation groups all over Australia. Most of the groups involved with Wild Koala Day have been advocating for koalas for many years, some for decades. Our experience is first-hand. We represent the front line of koala conservation, working with our local communities at a grass-roots level.
FAQs
How much does this event cost?
Locals (Victorian residents): $30 adults, $20 children/student/concession (Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult)
Tourists: $120 *
* This is a subsidised event for locals, however, we welcome tourists to join and spend a day with locals. Please book the tourist ticket if you do not reside in Victoria.
This contribution goes directly back to koalas and allows us to keep doing the important research and hands-on work we do. The nature experience we provide is educational and unique. For more information about the volunteer costs please read this: https://koalaclancy.wordpress.com/2017/07/11/how-and-why-it-costs-to-volunteer/
Why are tourist tickets more expensive than locals?
This is a subsidised event intended to educate locals (Victorian residents). Ticket prices do not cover costs, but are subsidised to encourage locals. We welcome international and interstate visitors but ask that they pay the true cost of the experience, so that koalas get the maximum benefit from their visit.
Koala Clancy Foundation is a not for profit, fully registered charity. We do not get government grants to cover our costs.
What should I bring?
Drinking water, a hat, packed lunch, keep-cup for coffee or tea, gardening gloves, sunscreen and insect repellent.
Note: due to COVID we recommend you bring your own gloves, food and a drinking mug.
Can I participate more than once?
Yes! We encourage volunteers to participate in as many conservation days as they can!
If you are planning on coming multiple times consider becoming a member of the Koala Clancy Foundation. This entitles you to unlimited participation in the conservation days for the year and is great value!
