Is there a way to help koalas without spending money? Do you have a skill you are willing to donate instead?
Koalas need a big community of good people, each doing a little bit that is fun, easy and practical. You can do something that is joyful for you, and help koalas at the same time.
What little bit can you do?
Harness the power of your local community – your office, sports club, family or social group – to create a big impact. Everyone has a valuable talent to offer, and some people would happily make a donation in return. Now there’s a way to use that to save koalas.
Introducing: The Skills Marketplace
Have a random skill that you love doing? Others might really need that. You would be surprised how many people can’t take up a hem, or use power tools, or edit their photos on digital software. They might need an extra pair of hands to build that flat pack greenhouse, or clean up their yard. Plenty of people would donate to get their Xmas presents wrapped, or get their car washed!
How it Works
..
1. Download and print this poster
Display it in your workplace or community space. Add your details at the top of Page 2: “Contact Your Local Organiser” in case anyone has a question
2. List Your Skill/s:
Write the skill that you are willing to share, with any conditions – eg location, time availability – and your name and contact details. Add in a suggested donation amount. (You can leave this blank but we recommend you give a hint. Clarity at this point makes everything smoother.) Next, invite your community to add their skills to the list too!
3. Check the Skills:
If you see an offer you want to take, contact the skill sharer to work out a time, and donation amount.
4. Make a Donation:
When the skill share is all sorted, the person receiving the skill makes a donation to Koala Clancy Foundation. https://www.koalaclancyfoundation.org.au/donate/
Psst… We’re running our own Skills Marketplace, exclusive to Koala Clancy Members! If you’re a member, check your email for the details. Not a member yet? Sign up today!
Skills Ideas:
Car washing
So easy! One bucket of water and a microfibre cloth will wash a whole car. Do it for the office carpark!
Lawn mowing
Simple for some, hard work for others. Anyone who is injured, elderly or unwell can find this really hard to do on their own.
Mending clothes or taking up a hem
Have a sewing machine and a bit of skill? You’d be amazed how many people would love a minor alteration, but just haven’t found the time.
Teaching how to make the perfect Christmas pavlova
Or Christmas cake, or brownies, or muesli! Share a recipe for a small donation.
Bake a batch of koala biscuits/cake for the office
You offer to bake the bikkies, your office chips in a donation and everyone gets a biscuit to enjoy!
Build someone a compost bin out of pallets
Or a small woodshed, or a chook run, or shelves for plants… pallets are usually free, and a bit of skill & tools can transform them!
Wrapping all of someone’s Christmas gifts
A great task for teenagers in the days leading up to Xmas.
Quick course in digital graphic design/using Canva
Digital graphics are so useful, but takes time to learn. Give a friend a quick crash course!
Clean up working bee at a neighbour’s house
Most of us would love a few extra hands for a cleanup!
Help someone put together a garden shed or flat-pack furniture
You don’t need special skills for this, just a willing pair of hands. It can be really hard to do these if you live alone!
A music lesson
Or several.. A colleague might have an instrument they’ve always wanted to learn, and you can start them on the journey.
Make some cuttings of a favourite plant for someone
If you have a green thumb you can make free plants from cuttings. Have a favourite flowering shrub? Take a pic and offer to do cuttings.
Technology support for phone or laptop
How about helping someone get all those icons off their desktop? Or cleaning up unused apps on their phone?
.
The ideas are endless! Get creative and bring your passions to the table.
By running or participating in a Skills Marketplace, you’re helping raise much-needed funds for our mission to save koalas and fostering a sense of community and connection during the most festive time of the year.
Let’s work together to create a brighter future for koalas.
