Donate Container Refunds to Charity to Help Plant Trees for Koalas

With the click of a button in the Container Deposit Scheme app, the 10c refund from your empty cans and bottles can be forwarded to Koala Clancy Foundation to help us plant 300,000 trees by 2030.

Your cans and bottles could get us across the line.

This winter, we need to raise $50,000. We have about $30,000 to go, with 10 weeks left of winter.

Let’s put those numbers into perspective.

An average of 10 million cans or bottles are processed by the Container Deposit Scheme each week. That’s $1 million worth of refunds in one week.

We would need to receive the tiniest portion of those refunds to reach our fundraising target by the end of winter (0.003% per week, to be precise).

All of a sudden a 10c refund feels like a pretty significant amount, hey? As we Aussies love to say – from little things, big things grow. When we band together as a community, each of those 10c refunds will add up to get us over the line of our $50,000 fundraising target.

In our race against the clock to safeguard wild koalas in Victoria, every bit of support is meaningful.

How to donate your CDS refunds

  1. In the Container Deposit Scheme app, click “Charities” and search “Koala Clancy Foundation”
  2. Click on our profile and select the button “Set as payout”
  3. Deposit your bottles and cans at your local CDS Recycling Point
  4. Give yourself a pat on the back, because you’ve just helped us plant 300,000 trees by 2030

Container collection ideas

  1. The simplest of all – a separate box next to your kitchen recycle bin for your household to collect all eligible cans and bottles in
  2. Run a container collection drive at your school, workplace, or local community group. Set up a collection box and let everyone know about the koalas that they’re helping to save! To get people excited, set a collection target.
  3. Rally the neighbours! Put a separate bin in your front yard for your neighbours to drop their cans and bottles into (some people just don’t have the time to head to the CDS refund point). Do a quick letterbox drop to let everyone know what you’re collecting cans for, or pop a post in your local community Facebook Group, and watch your collection grow!

Thought of another creative idea? We’d love to hear from you! Shoot us an email at info@koalaclancyfoundation.org.au

From experience, drinks taste better when you know they’re helping plant a koala forest anyway 😁
