184,837 Trees Planted for Koalas

A sunny Saturday in September marked the end of Koala Clancy Foundation’s 2025 tree planting season and it’s safe to say we’re on track to smash our target to plant 300,000 Trees by 2030.

Alongside 28 of our brilliant members, our team were excited to hear that the day of planting brought our grand total to:

184,837 trees planted for koalas!

2025 – A Planting Season to Remember

This season was an enormous success. 344 participants, including 9 corporate teams, joined us to get their hands dirty and plant the koala forests of the future. We met lots of new faces and saw old friends, like the team from Bar Clara, who joined us for their fourth year of tree planting!

We also developed our planting methodology, overcame climatic challenges, spotted rare wildlife like the platypus and rakali, and raised a whopping $44,055!

To everyone who has been involved or donated, thank you – you’ve made this possible.

Behind the scenes, our team are working hard to revolutionise the way we work to save koalas and other Australian wildlife. In the meantime, there are so many ways for you to get involved! Here’s how:

Why 300,000 Trees by 2030?

Every one of the koalas in the You Yangs is important to us. We have known some of them, like Pat ClancyNgardang & Kiki, their whole lives. We know their home ranges, and we know how many trees they need: Our calculations show that each koala in the You Yangs needs 7,640 eucalyptus trees to themselves. They don’t necessarily use all those every year, but their home range includes that many – and there must be a reason for that. Koalas need fewer trees when they are alongside rivers, in fertile soil. So, in better conditions, 3000 trees per koala should be adequate.

So to support the whole koala population of the You Yangs we need 100 koalas x 3000 trees each = 300,000 trees.
